On 31st March, 1915, the 1st East Surrey battalion of 14 Brigade, 5th Division moved into the front line trenches at Kemmel in Belgium where they remained until relieved on 4th April. Donald Meek died from wounds on 5th April having been sent to a base hospital on the coast and it is likely that he was wounded during this period spent in the trenches. |
